Local Nasal Effects

How to Use QNASL

Preparation and Priming
Before using a new canister for the first time, you must prime the device by releasing several sprays into the air, away from your face. You should also re-prime the device if it has not been used for a specific period of time. Unlike many other nasal sprays, you should not shake the QNASL canister before use.
Administration Steps
- Gently blow your nose to clear your nostrils before using the spray.
- Remove the protective cap from the device.
- Hold the inhaler upright and tilt your head slightly forward.
- Insert the spray tip into one nostril and point it toward the outer side of the nose, away from the center wall (septum).
- Close the other nostril with your finger.
- Press down firmly on the canister to release the spray while breathing in through your nose.
- Exhale through your mouth and repeat the process in the other nostril if directed.
Cleaning and Care
After each use, wipe the spray tip with a clean, dry tissue and replace the cap. Do not wash the device or allow any part of the canister to get wet.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular schedule. Do not use extra medication or double your dose to make up for a missed one.

Taking more than the prescribed amount of QNASL can be dangerous. If an overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical care immediately. Call 911 or contact Poison Control at 800-222-1222 for immediate guidance.
Pregnancy
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies regarding the use of QNASL in pregnant women. While animal studies have shown that corticosteroids can cause birth defects when administered systemically at high doses, the amount of medication absorbed into the bloodstream after using the nasal spray is generally low.
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. In some cases, infants born to mothers who used corticosteroids during pregnancy may need to be monitored for signs of underactive adrenal glands, also known as hypoadrenalism.
Breastfeeding
It is not known if the active ingredient in QNASL passes into human breast milk. While other corticosteroids are known to enter breast milk, the low levels absorbed from nasal administration make it less likely to reach the infant in significant amounts. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution is advised when using this medication while breastfeeding.

FDA Approval History
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first approved QNASL (beclomethasone dipropionate) nasal aerosol in March 2012. The initial approval was for the treatment of nasal symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older. In October 2014, the FDA expanded this approval to include a formulation for children aged 4 to 11 years.
