I’ve been seeing Dr. Buchholz since moving to Alberta in 2020. He is caring and empathetic and made me feel comfortable from the very beginning. My main dealings with him are about my ADHD and finding the right medication to deal with that. Anything to do with my actual mental health issues he referred me out to an excellent psychologist and any subsequent issues I would bring up with him he would simply suggest I bring it up with the psychologist. Prior to this I had little to no experience seeing mental health professionals so I don’t know if this is what is standard or not. As all of my appointments with Dr Buchholz have been via telephone I have had no interaction with his staff so can’t rate them.

Dr Burcholtz is alright I suppose. I have severe pain and have had severe pain in several places for over 20 years. I can't stand the fact that Dr Burcholtz always implies that my pain is in my head, like I'm faking. I don't fake anything and I really feel that him treating me like I'm faking takes away from treating all the mental health issues he has diagnosed me with. I leave my visits feeling frustrated and angry. My life sucks and my shrink treats me like I'm a joke. And sadly I think he influences other Healthcare professionals I have. They will always take his word over mine, just because I'm not a doctor and he is. And that scares me because the other doctors on my multidisciplinary team of Healthcare professionals may not be treating me properly. I'm not a faker! I resent being treated like I'm faking. I live in severe pain because of all the accidents I have been through over 40 adult years of life. It's not in effin head!

2nd visit & was kicked out the door, and told just have your GP refill your medication. If this is what Psychiatrist's are doing today,I can certainly see why there's such a big problem with mental health in Alberta. Oh well better luck with the next Psychiatrist. Or maybe just commit suicide,I'm sure that wouldn't bother Buchholz.

Dr Craig with the help of my GP were the firs set of practioners who made me feel that my mental heath issues were not something that I could control without medication. I recall Dr. Craig saying, I dont like telling people that it is the meds that is makeing you better but in your case … it is. You have skills. the Medical part just helps you use your skills effectively. I wish that I had more time to chatt with him during our appointments. He is a smart guy that never makes you feel like he has 20 years of education on you. 🙂 I have recomended him to my other friend who received the same diagnosis because I believe that he actually hears what you have to say. He also identified the importance of being able to articulate what you are feeling mentally and physically so that you are medicated appropriately. Thanks again Dr Craig
