Has a tendancy to blame problems on the patients weight, and to not give painkillers until after procedures (Not surgeries of course; Procedures like keeping wounds open to drain)

I was 19 years old, had a breast reduction and panniculectomy(not as good as a tummy tuck!) I was never seen or contacted by Leoni again. He tore my mom into pieces, trying to avoid responsibility. College of Physicians is investigating him. 9 months after my pann. my lower abdomen was tender and swollen, I gently pressed and OMG! pus began to pour out, I had to use a cup, and it filled! I was on massive antibiotics,my docs say it was likely from poor hygiene after surgery or a material left behind. I have to get an ultrasound/blood tests regularly for next year at least. Leoni was sent info. regarding this, he never contacted the doctor or me. Leoni is a ****, if he makes a mistake, Canada is very difficult to sue any doctor. This guy needs to be sued, acccountable is some way.I have no belly button, just a lump, scarring is major, even though I seldom scar, no breast sensitivity, blobby nipples. Leoni sucks. J

Dr. Leoni is a very skilled Surgeon, who is very dedicated to his patients. He acted very promtly on my surgery when it was determined that I had a very serious condition that was life and death..Yes, he will criticize your weight but for good reason as he wants to see everyone live a healthly lifestyle. He was at my bedside twice a day checking on my recovery.. I trust him completley, and while I hope to never need his services again I would trust him completley.

i recently had an appendectomy done at st marys in camrose by doctor leoni. while i admit he sorely lacks some bedside manner, his comments about bad habits, eg; smoking in my case, obesity and such, are sound and i find no fault in him telling me what i already knew. thats a doctors job. his skill as a surgeon seems very good. i was admitted one evening, and about 4 hours later, i had my appendix removed. he kept me on a morphine drip for about 3 days (a godsens considering the level of pain that goes with an appendectomy) hes a doctor that while i would recommend to others, be prepared to hear the blunt, honest truth, he sugar coats nothing. i found the reviews he scored lowest on are not as serious issues, and people dont like his comments on their bad habits. a bad reason to make him look bad. grow up ppl. admit it. u couldnt do any better. doctors arent perfect either. as far as EMERGENCY (not cosmetic) surgery is concerned, he knows his****.

Dr. Franco Leoni is the reason why my husband is alive today. He was able to find my husband’s gastric lymphoma during a gastric endoscopy. Dr. LEONI REFERRED HIM PROMPTLY to an Oncologist specialist in Edmonton and he was referred to another specialist at the Cross Cancer Center, a Stage 4 cancer received 4 months of chemotherapy and we are now celebrating his 5th year cancer free life. No words can be said to thank him for his incredible professionalism where the care exhibited for his patient , is second to none.

I am a former breast augmentation patient of Dr. Franco Leoni. I was severely traumatized by my experience 11 years ago, at the hands of Leoni, and I feel I have not been acknowledged or respected. I did try to share my concerns and experience with the Board of Physicians and Surgeons at the time, but was unable to properly present facts, due to the emotional effects of the trauma of losing my previously healthy breasts. I have been struggling with this physically since the grossly unethical actions of Leoni, involving multiple surgeries to rebuild my breasts. I have endured pain, emotional depression and shame from the disfigurement. At the time, Leoni acted puzzled and blamed me and a very low dose of mirapex(not taken prior to surgery) for a drop in blood pressure, twice, causing him to rush through my surgery. Within two hours after, my nipples fell off into the dressing as a nurse was checking my recovery. Following I was attached to wound vacs as my breasts dissolved into necrotizing flesh and tissue, over Christmas as Leoni went on holidays. Leoni laughed at my distress, saying I didn’t have cancer so I should be happy. Not once did he accept responsibility or mention that the use of an unfamiliar antibiotic, vancomycin, caused my drop in blood pressure during his surgery, twice! Following the last appointment where he made fun of my condition, I could not physically or emotionally endure further harm at his ineptitude. I sought help from qualified plastic surgeons, which I later learned, Leoni was not. I was never informed that he was actually a general surgeon with no business doing my surgery. Since this man has disfigured me, and more than 11 years have passed, I am still not complete in repairing my body. Leoni has avoided legal repercussions as I was not litigious minded, and I believe he has never even suffered a moment of remorse or concern for my outcome. No financial compensation was within my capabilities within the 2 yr. timing. Recently, I suffered an emotional breakdown, learning that I am suffering from PTSD. I have lost 11 years of my life, and my experience in my children’s life was also impacted negatively. I don’t know if this letter is any interest or consequence to any of you. It is a matter which, until now, I have not had the strength or capacity to address.
The suffering continues to this day.

I’ve had Leoni for multiple stomach surgeries and scopes. He’s always very professional and I always gives me great referrals if needed! He works with my mother and has a great bedside manner and she says he always asks about me. Love Dr. Leoni!

Dr Leoni has been my and my husbands surgeon for 15 years and during that time I have had several difficult surgeries as has my husband. There is no surgeon that we trust more than Dr Leoni who is one of the most caring, kind ,efficient and effective doctors. He genuinely cares for his patients and their well being, checks his patients at least twice a day, morning and evening, has a great sense of humor and a reassuring bedside manner. He spends considerable time reviewing his patients history, and is completely honest about his ability or non ability to conduct specific surgeries. This man has saved my husband’s life twice and has saved mine three times. He does not hesitate to refer to, request advice from or call in other medical professionals if necessary. Most recently I owe my life to his willingness to consult with other surgeon more experienced in other medical fields when required . Thanks to him he called in another professional who ended up having to do a “Hail Mary” surgery that Leoni was unable to do, hence saving me from the grave. We cannot say enough good things about this man and his excellent staff members who went way beyond the call of duty to help in a time of crisis and need.
