I have had a discectomy twice from Dr. Abelseth. Both times I was able to resume my life again. I have heard from other patients, from nurses, and I believe this as well, he is the best ortho surgeon in Calgary (if not the West). He doesn't have much of a bed side manner, but who cares. He is extremely talented with a knife.

I have had two hips and one knee replaced and have found him to be great doctor. Always kind and always listens and gives you all the time you need. I have no complaints and I am now pain free with all my new joints!

I have had both knees and one hip replaced by Dr. Abelseth and could not be happier. I had all surgeries done from May to Sep. in 2002 and went back to playing hockey 3 times a week in Sep. 2004. I recomend him to everyone I hear of that needs a hip or knee. He is the absolute best.

My left knee surgery was in May of 2005. I have no fears about having my other knee done in the near future. He explains proceedure fully and makes sure the anesthetist is aware of my allergies.

I have seen Dr. Abelseth every 6 months for a few years prior to having my knee replaced in April. He is always informative and honest giving the pros and cons to all options. The surgery went well and the follow-up is just as informative. As for surgical technique...I have about 14 scars on this knee from assorted previous surgery and his is the neatest, no post-op complications.

Dr. Abelseth has performed going on 5 knee arthroscopic surgeries for me. I have an ongoing condition that requires my knee to be scoped when it is bothering me. Dr. Abelseth has been amazing at getting me in when needed and booking surgery promptly. His care is great, and he does a great job on the surgery. He is a fantastic Doctor and Surgeon. Highly recommended.

had a terrible experience. Basically got brushed off because I am “too young to have a knee replacement” – I am 40. Told that until I am 50 I have to just deal with the pain and barely being able to walk. No recommendations. Told to basically see my GP for any ongoing pain management. No interest in seeing me again. Will be getting a second opinion as I have done my research and know you can do knee replacements at my age (and they do not need redone every 10-15 years – the latest types can last up to 25 years, and replacing only means replacing parts that aren’t attached to bones so less invasive). I have already heard from a GP friend about a surgeon with more up to date skills and hardware that I will be trying to get an appt with after this terrible one.
