I feel lucky to have Dr. Jarvis as my doctor. She answers all my questions. She seems to care about me as a person, not just as a patient with psoriasis. I had to start on a very strong drug which I inject and I was nervous. She gave me her cell-phone number and told me I could call if I had questions. I have never heard of another doctor doing that. The last dermatologist I saw 2 years ago said she would only do 1 skin problem per visit. After that she rushed me out. What a difference!

Dr. Jarvis is no longer seeing patients with dermatological cancer issues. This came as an unexpected surprise after I had a basal cell carcinoma removed earlier this year. Disappointing, as I had been a patient for over 25 years and had a good relationship with her. Dr. Jarvis seemed anxious to just wipe me off her slate. There was no reason given for this change in her practice.
I asked for a referral to another dermatologist and she unfortunately was not interested in helping with this. Moving forward, Dr. Jarvis also was not willing to remove keratosis which are non-cancerous. Would be interested to know if others have had a similar experience with being “dismissed”.
Highly disappointing as I believe she is very knowledgeable with a wealth of experience in dealing with all skin issues and concerns.
There is no in-office staff post-pandemic and all appts. are booked by phone or online.

With my sun-damaged skin and numerous moles, I had consulted with three different dermatologists over the years. After I had two pre-cancerous lesions removed, I was referred to the Schachter Dermatology Centre at Women’s College Hospital back in the 1990’s for regular cancer screening and monitoring. It was there where I first met Dr. Jarvis. She stood out for me. Here was a knowledgeable and skilled physician with the welcomed addition of being caring and supportive to a patient such as myself who was very fearful of melanoma. She did meticulously thorough examinations and took time to explain and advise on minimizing the risks of skin cancer. I felt I had a strong ally in dealing with my sensitive skin.
Later in 2006, when I developed a growth under my arm, my family physician decided to send me to a dermatologist. I requested a referral to Dr. Jarvis’ private practice and was thrilled when she took me on as a patient. I have been seeing her ever since on a regular basis for cancer screening with the addition some years later of cosmetic treatments.
As well as being an excellent medical doctor, Dr. Jarvis is a skilled cosmetic physician. She studies your face closely and draws not only on her technical knowledge but what I call her keen “aesthetic eye.” With you, she develops a detailed treatment plan and carefully reviews the necessary preparation for the treatment and the follow-up care after the procedures. She also provides you with written instructions and she is clear about costs. For me, the result is a very happy patient with my face rejuvenated and my morale and self- confidence boosted.
Other advantages include her proximity to the Jane subway station and, for motorists, to parking lots and street parking close by. Her office is very attractive; the effect is restful and calming. Her staff over the years (Ann and Disha come to mind) are an integral part of her team. She keeps herself up-to-date with seminars and conferences and provides training to other physicians as well. She does not rush you out of her office as other doctors may do. In fact, she has sometimes phoned me in the evening to discuss test results.
I always look forward to my appointments with her. On a personal level, she is a very interesting person to know and on a professional level, she is truly dedicated to the care of her patients.

Great experience with this doctor. Took awhile to get in (GP sent me, had to wait 3 months). But she was incredible. Spent over an hour with me and was very kind and understanding with my mother who is elderly. She took the time to go over my mother’s medications with us and found something that was causing a side effect that two of her other doctors missed. It actually ended up having a big impact: my mother has noticeably more energy and her appetite is returning. All from something that was missed by TWO other doctors. Dr. Jarvis’ attention to detail and patience is commendable, and I’m appreciative. She really goes the extra mile.

The most horrible experience I’ve ever had with a medical professional in my entire life.
Was referred to her for some moles to be checked out from my GP. She pushed my appointment 3 times, having me wait for several more months than originally scheduled to eventually see her. When I went in she scolded be for waiting so long to see a dermatologist?! I’ve always been extremely on top of getting my moles checked since I was 12 (I have a lot of irregular moles), so was personally offended she made such a quick judgement, especially considering that it was her fault it had taken so long to get in. She ordered several moles to be removed. When I asked if I should be concerned, she responded (and I kid you not) “You shouldn’t have waited so long. Go home and enjoy time with your son” (I had just had a baby). So now I assume I have cancer and have little time left to live!?!?
She also berated me in front of her entire waiting room full of patients for having an expired healthcard. When I tried to explain that I had a temporary card, as the new one was in the mail she said “How do you expect me to get paid? I don’t show up to the Bay to buy new shoes without a credit card. What do you expect me to do with this.” I was so utterly shocked by the entire encounter, it left me in tears and I never went back.
When I later had to be in touch with reception for my biopsy results (all came back normal/healthy), I told the receptionist how horrible my experience was. She said that she cares about her patients, that’s why she’s like that. ODD way of showing it. I will absolutely never return to this nightmare of a doctor and now drive far across town to another derm that has a much more acceptable way of treating patients. Absolutely horrendous.

Ingrid Jarvis is a lovely doctor and I agree that she is caring. I had some facial treatments and laser work done and it made a huge difference. But more important than her kindness and her respect for her patients is her honesty. When I noticed some notes on my private situation in her file, I was taken back. She immediately opened the file and showed them to me. She had linked my concern with my skin to another set of problems in my life. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
