We waited two hours for a return visit with this Arrogant God Complex surgeon with the mannerism of a self-important nasty man with an over-inflated ego.

Dr. James Shapiro is a great doctor. He has a lot on his plate and is only human like all other doctors on the planet, but he is extremely knowledgable, kind and generous. I am grateful for his tenacity and the contribution to science and research. I'd like to see other people under that amount of constant pressure do a better job.

I was with a family member recently for their consult appt with this surgeon, was a long wait for a very brief appt with this doctor. Not sure if what we dealt with was because he was already hours behind but he rushed us into his office by yelling out from his desk "Who is next? " . He still had the previous patient's diagnostic imaging result list up on the giant tv screen in his office. Had not reviewed my family member's history before the appt, asked 3 questions, pulled up our results on the computer with that same large screen displaying as he searched our last name so we saw the name of every patient with the same initials as he searched. After brief review of the tumour tyoe, he then stated he wouldn't recommend surgery, was terse and aggravated when we asked questions. Then he started recording his dictation before we had fully left our chairs. He may be a gifted surgeon but the privacy breaches we saw would have kept us from going back even if he had been compassionate and well mannered. If you see this doctor I would strongly suggest you ask him to close your chart or at the very least close the mirror/Bluetooth connection to that large screen before you leave his office to protect your privacy.

Dr. Shapiro got me into surgery 6 days after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He is a very kind, caring person, who explained everything to me in layman’s terms. He performed the Whipple procedure on me, and was there before surgery to give me comfort, knowing how terrified I was. He was there every morning after surgery to check on me along with his staff of doctors. In my opinion, Dr. James Shapiro is the most caring, professional, wonderful human being I have ever had the privilage of meeting.

The “good candidate for the procedure” is now deceased. Never made it out of hospital. We requested a family meeting twice. Never heard from the resident, doctor, social worker, or care coordinator to arrange one. Dementia protocols not followed. Meds prescribed for symptoms that were never documented. We were told preop that the surgery would extend life expectancy only then to be told told 3-6 month expectancy post op anyways. Patient made it 6 weeks. Pretty sure the patient was just a good candidate to fill the OR slot and someone’s wallet. A vet would probably have provided more adequate services.

I was in for surgery that Dr. Shapiro was doing. He was so kind and made sure I understood the proceedure and what to expect afterwords.

Dr. Shapiro is a great surgeon. He operated on my husband. My major complaint is that my husband’s follow up appointments were way too rushed and not thorough enough.
