Performed a complex mitral value repair that no Cardiologist said could be done with excellent results. Saved my life.

My mom went to the University hospital in February 2007 with chest pains, and was sent home after many hours of waiting unattended in the waiting room. She returned the following day by ambulance and was again asked to sit in the waiting room. By the time she was seen by an emergency room doctor, and a subsequent chest x-ray was ordered – it was visible on the x-ray that she was experiencing a full aortic dissection (a 1.5 foot long tear along her aorta) and that she required immediate open-heart surgery. Dr. Mullen was the surgeon that saved her life that day. It was an unscheduled, emergency surgery that he performed that day. I can’t put into words how grateful I am for what he did. We have been told numerous times how different the outcome could have been, had we been in Mexico (as we were a few weeks previous) or elsewhere. Dr. Mullen save my mom’s life. He is an amazing surgeon; and I will be forever grateful.

Very confident and thorough. He called me at home on a weekend so I didn’t have to make the six hour trip when I was bumped due to a transplant surgery. I had a very good experience in the care of Dr. Mullen. Sure there are wait times and it can be frustrating but it’s the system, not the doc.

Dr. Mullen was very reassuring and confident. He took time to answer all my questions. Bottom line he saved my life.

I’ve heard from his pears that he he is one of the best heart surgeons around, specializing in high risk and valve surgery. If any of you pay attention to the news, he is also the only surgeon doing living donor lung transplants and also does many heart transplants. He is in such demand that the waiting time can be awfuul. But, he always puts the most critical people first – thank God! The system is more to blame for the wait. He is a very caring dr. and doesn’t seem to take his position lightly. I would put my life in his hands again!
