Dr Smyth was late and didn't address the one question I had until the end of the appointment. She asks very general questions and cuts you off before you finish explaining the answer, so doesn't really get an answer but then moves on!

I have seen Dr. Smyth twice now and I have to admit that I am more comfortable with her than I was with the last 6 neurologists! She was very understanding, attentive and understood where I was coming from. I would recommend her to anyone. I loved the way she explained things to me in terms that I understood and not big long medical terms that I would have to research. She told me she would book another MRI for a year from the last time I saw her and I received that date less than a month after I saw her. She is a very great Neurologist! Thank you for all you have done for me!!

Dr. Smyth has zero bedside manner. I travelled over two hours to see her and was anxious about my symptoms as I was experiencing random numbness and pain that was causing me to fall at random times. While explaining my symptoms to her, I started to cry and she told me just to see a psychologist as though it's not normal to feel upset and scared when your body acts this way for no apparent reason and you have young children to tend to and a spouse that works away (ie: little support). She told me to see a different type of specialist as my condition wasn't a neurological one and that I'd need a referral from my GP, yet my GP won't do so. When I told her that, she raised her voice at me and got quite heated. I would never recommend this doctor. She left me feeling defeated, attacked and stupid. I've never had a professional treat me this way ever. If I had a dollar for every eye roll and shoulder shrug I got from her, it would've covered the cost of my gas at least. Sheesh.

Dr. Smyth is a very compassionate and knowledgeable physician. She is thorough and is a very good listener. I started seeing her after an MS relapse last year as she is new to Alberta, and would highly recommend her to other MS patients. She spends lots of time with you and really "gets it". Dr Smyth is an excellent clinician and I always feel I am receiving the very best treatment and diagnostics. Fantastic!

Dr. Penelope Smyth is an amazing doctor. She is very kind and has a wonderful bedside manner. She is nonjudgmental and answered all of my questions with compassion, She is always very thorough in her physical examinations and making sure that blood work and MRI’s are up to date. She has given me advise on sleep hygiene, meditation , exercise and ways to alleviate stress. When I asked her about diet she referred my to the dietitian on staff which I got in to see in less than a month. I love that she is very balanced with medical treatment and making sure that I was looking after my whole self as she believes that being physically and emotional healthy are key to living my best life despite having MS.

I found Dr. Smyth to be very thorough with her physical exam and a wonderful listener. When I told her about my stress and how it is affecting my MS she was very compassionate and gave me ideas on how to alleviate my stress. She ordered tests and sent referrals while I was still in the office. I did not feel rushed or as if I was a burden. I would recommend this doctor to anyone who is looking for treatment for MS.
