📋Overview
Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a congenital vascular anomaly characterized by an abnormal, tangled connection between arteries and veins, bypassing the capillary system. This results in direct high-flow shunting of blood, which can cause various neurological or systemic symptoms depending on the location. AVMs are most commonly found in the brain or spinal cord but can occur elsewhere. The term 'arteriovenous malformation' is the modern preferred terminology.
