📋Overview
Bell's palsy is a common term for idiopathic acute peripheral facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) paralysis. It is a sudden onset, unilateral facial weakness or paralysis without an identifiable cause after evaluation. The modern preferred term is 'idiopathic facial nerve palsy.' It is distinct from facial paralysis caused by stroke, infections, tumors, or trauma.
