๐Overview
This transmissible spongiform encephalopathy involves the abnormal folding of prion proteins, which leads to progressive damage in the central nervous system. This condition causes the brain tissue to develop a characteristic sponge-like appearance that is often visible during microscopic evaluation.
The human form of this condition, known as variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, can occur after the consumption of contaminated beef products. These infectious prions can trigger a similar neurodegenerative process in humans following exposure to affected tissues.
