๐Overview
This condition occurs when the median nerve, which provides sensation and movement to specific areas of the hand, becomes compressed within the narrow passageway of the wrist. Such pressure typically results in sensations of numbness, tingling, or weakness, particularly affecting the thumb and first three fingers.
The carpal tunnel is a rigid opening composed of bones and ligaments that protects the nerve and tendons. When anatomical or inflammatory factors narrow this space, the resulting nerve impingement may interfere with neurological signaling and manual dexterity.
