Clival Chordoma
๐Overview
This malignancy is a specific subtype of chordoma, a rare form of cancer that can occur anywhere along the spine or skull base. It originates specifically in the clivus, which is a bony region located at the center of the skull base.
These tumors develop from cellular remnants of the embryonic notochord that may persist after fetal development. While often characterized by slow growth, they are considered locally aggressive due to their potential to invade nearby bone and adjacent anatomical structures.
