๐Overview
Icelandic Type Amyloidosis is a legacy term historically used to describe a hereditary form of amyloidosis primarily found in Iceland. The modern preferred term is Hereditary ATTR Amyloidosis (hATTR amyloidosis), caused by mutations in the transthyretin (TTR) gene leading to abnormal amyloid protein deposits. This condition affects multiple organs, especially peripheral nerves and the heart.
