Muscular Dystrophies
๐Overview
These conditions are caused by genetic mutations that interfere with the production of proteins necessary for healthy muscle formation and function. The specific type of mutation determines which muscles are affected and the age at which symptoms typically begin to appear.
While the various forms of these disorders share the common feature of muscle wasting, they differ significantly in their clinical presentation and the rate of progression. These inherited disorders can manifest in early childhood or may not become apparent until later in adulthood.
