How to Take Acalabrutinib
Acalabrutinib comes as a capsule or tablet to be taken by mouth. It is usually taken twice a day, approximately 12 hours apart. You should take this medication at around the same times every day to maintain a consistent level in your body.
When taking this medication, follow these guidelines:
- Swallow the capsule or tablet whole with a full glass of water.
- Do not crush, chew, break, or open the capsules or tablets.
- You may take the medication with or without food.
Dietary Considerations
While taking acalabrutinib, you should avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice. You should also avoid Seville oranges, which are often used in marmalades. These products can interfere with how the medication is processed by your body.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if a significant amount of time has passed since your scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take extra medicine or two doses at once to make up for a missed one.

Pregnancy
There are no adequate studies on the use of acalabrutinib in pregnant women to determine drug-associated risks. However, based on findings from animal studies, this medication may cause harm to a developing fetus when administered during pregnancy. Healthcare providers typically discuss the potential risks to the fetus if the medication is used during pregnancy.
Key considerations for individuals of reproductive potential include:
- Pregnancy Testing: Healthcare providers may verify pregnancy status in females of reproductive potential before starting treatment.

Breastfeeding

Because of the potential for serious adverse reactions in a nursing infant, healthcare providers generally advise women not to breastfeed during treatment and for at least two weeks after the last dose.
