t was March 1984 at around midnight when I was taken by ambulance to Alfred Hospital's emergency department coming from Gippsland hospital, (It is needless to describe here what I was going through at that time, you imagine it and then multiply X 10) Within a few hours the hospital staff prepared me for an emergency operation at the left back of my head, (Cerebellum) to relieve the fluid pressure that nearly killed me, Dr. Brazenor and the hospital team inserted a shunt going from the back of my head to the belly to drain the fluids. Three days later second operation to remove the tumor (1 mm from my brain) that was blocking the fluids circulating. After this....I only had to put up with the pain of the cuts and the stitches for a few days. For 38 years I did not have the slightest of problems regarding the operation, No restriction to my life style at all! 18 months ago (new year's eve) te shunt snapped in the neck area and Alfred came to the rescue again I am still here living a normal life without even thinking about what I went through! I met Dr Brazenor next morning when he visited all of his patients. He was radiating lots of hope, confidents, trust, and what he said to you you knew....it was the truth, he wouldn't give you false hope (that was exactly what I was expecting from him, no "BS") He seemed like he was sent by God to me, (I know he was just doing his "job" but it seemed much more than that to me) I know he was fighting the governments for years for more funds to the hospitals so they would provide better healthcare to all of us, I read lots of negative reviews here about him, most to do with unfavorable for them reports regarding insurance claims, People blame him for working for the insurance companies! (I wonder if any of these people bothered to get a second opinion before they blamed him) Insurance claims have always been tough, any kind of claims, they don't exactly throw money at you, we all know that. I can not imagine that the Dr. Brazenor I knew to have become an insurance "puppet" as many people say here, I believe that he is a man of principles and high standards and a life saving neurosurgeon, He saved my life for sure. When I was in hospital there were two levels at the Alfred full of his patients, one with head operations and one with heart operations patients! For me it is almost impossible to imagine that for a doctor to go from performing life saving operations all his life to becoming an insurance "puppet" at the and of his career as these people claim. Graeme saw me for a DVA claim where in 1966 the Navy doctors messed up a simple operation and caused my left leg to make me limp as I walk. He watched me walk for 3 metres in his office and concluded that I should not be limping. He was employed by the DVA solicitor and after I saw my specialist who said that I definately have a limp Graeme changed his report to say that maybe a slight limp. I had to withdraw my claim and now suffer pain daily from nerve and bone damage through 50 years of limping. This man works for insurance and not his patients.
