Recently had a LVAD put in. Dr. Mullen did a fantastic job and came to see me on a few occasions after surgery. I know he is extremely busy, but he put in the time to come check on me and answer any questions I had. Absolute fantastic doctor. The University of Alberta and all it's patients are lucky to have him.

He performed my Heart Transplant over a year ago and I have hadd no problems since then. He is a surgeon so he doesn't have a lot of follow up with transplant patients, He just does his job and saves peples lives

Dr. Mullen saved my life! He is an amazing surgeon, he did my living lobar lung transplant back in June 2013. I was the 8th living lung transplant in Canada and be did them all. I found him to be very intelligent, compassionate and dedicated. After my surgery he came to visit me several times, and every time he walked in the room his face lite up and all I could see was him smiling and so pleased that I was doing so well. I felt like I was an Original piece of art and one of his pride possessions. He definitely takes pride in his work. He has an extremely long waiting list but as previously stated, if you need to be in quick because of emergency then he will make room for you.

Dr. Mullen performed mitral valve repair with Maze procedure for me in October 2013. The valve repair was successful, but the Maze procedure was not. Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation has now become permanent following the surgery. Later cardioversion also was not successful. Laurie, Dr. Mullen's office assistant, is the best! Wait time for the surgery was 23 weeks. The hospital should stop putting on the discharge papers that you will have a follow-up appointment in 6-12 weeks, as it has been over 6 months now & I never was contacted. I saw Dr. Mullen very briefly in the ICU the morning after the surgery; that was the last time I saw him. I feel I may not have asked all the right questions before the surgery, to have been properly informed, but the valve repair has probably kept me from congestive heart failure, which many older members of my family died from. My cardiologist says Dr. Mullen is one of the top surgeons in Edmonton, and I would agree.

You do your job and you do it well. I have had 2 out of 3 open heart surgeries performed by Dr. Mullen, I am here to tell you he is the best. There is no doubt in my mind that this man is the best we have. I was brought in very quickly without a long wait. I was so happy to hear I was getting the same surgeon. Every beat that my heart makes, I thank God for people like Dr. Mullen. So people be thankful there are people like him, that do this kind of work. He will treat you well and will do what it takes to save your life. He was a 11 and a half hours doing my surgery. I have not seen him since, but am waiting to get in to see him when his busy schedule allows it. So for now I will be paitent and wait to say Thank you Dr. Mullen...you are no doubt the best! Dr. Mullen literally saved my life. He performed a difficult double bypass and double valve repair when I was close to going into congestive heart failure. He explained the entire procedure to me and followed up the day after my surgery as well as a month later in his office. I was back to skiing 3 months after the surgery. He is a gifted surgeon.

Dr. Mullen assured me before my surgery that I am in great hands. He replaced my mitral valve 3 years ago with an open heart surgery. The best Surgeon!! I can’t thank him enough for saving my life and his medical team!

solve my life twice Dec 2017 massive heart attack put me on bypass for 10 days then installed lvad and again in Nov 2019 done my heart transplant. Very professional don’t remember the much about bypass but was very happy and relaxed when I got him for Lvad and again for heart transplant . Thank you Mr. Mullen.
