This doctor has not provided dignified quality of life for my family member, he prescribed the wrong medication and stopped providing pain control. We had asked for referral to a specialist for help in managing end of life pain management with no result. When our specialist and nurse consultants wrote out prescriptions and referrals for Dr. Slabbert it took him 6 days to respond. If you have received poor quality of care from this physician I suggest you contact the Colleague of Physicians and Surgeon of Alberta to fill a complaint that will be fairly investigated in the meantime I would avoid this physician

His nurse Laurel Mitty is the horrible and Dr. Slabbert while being gentle & kind needed to SPEAK up with diagnosis & not let friendship & your special relationship with your nurse & her family cloud your professionalism … doctored for over 2 years with promise of specialists BUT nothing … you need to be a DR with conviction & save lives not worry about what others think…

Wow previous rating was a bit harsh BUT I too have had basically the same interaction/experience except mine was with a family member whom I attended visits with & had several private consults with both in clinic & hospital… DR Slabbert takes the time with his patients & is very kind almost to the point of NOT wanting to hurt anyone with a diagnosis & while he didn’t have all the answers he researched & listened attentitively to our concerns BUT was either hesitate(embarrassed) or just slow – or his nurse dropped the ball for referrals that we continued to ask/ beg for- even when he saw frustration & said he would. His staff on the other hand especially his nurse is at best curt & I might add rather condescending – certainly didn’t feel comfortable with her & telling her anything as you have to upon arrival in the room, although DR Slabbert did reiterate that our visits were confidential even from her- not trusting her with privacy.

Very grateful for the wonderful, compassionate, and dedicated team of Dr. Slabbert and his nurse, Laurel. I have been going to them as a patient for over 14 years and have always been thankful for their competent, efficient, and caring help with my healthcare needs. Dr. Slabbert is kind, funny, encouraging, non-judgemental, and highly knowledgeable and skilled with diagnosis and treatment. Laurel is warm, compassionate, always willing to listen, and her follow-up is outstanding. If you need to be seen, she makes room for you. I know that I am in good hands, always, with Dr. Slabbert and Laurel. We are so fortunate to have them in Camrose.

Dr.Slabbert thinks he is funny…but he is NOT. Thinks its a joke when he is dealing with seniors…we aren’t stupid. He would let u cough for a year without assisting in some medication..he doesn’t care just looks like he does.

Dr Slabbert has been my doctor for many years and has helped me with so many chronic medical issues not only is an excellent doctor but has also become a caring friend. He will email me messages or call me to see how I am he gives me homework and videos to watch and listens and refers me to the correct especially when he can’t help. Through diabetes and complications multiple surgeries, cancer, chronic pain and some very debilitating side effects of diabetes he’s been there for me. I’d recommend him to anyone. He may be a bit unorthodox and old school but he’s open and willing to try new ideas even as an older doctor. His assistant, nurse Laural is excellent also. I hope he never retires!
