๐Overview
Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) is a hereditary disorder characterized by the development of hundreds to thousands of adenomatous polyps in the colon and rectum, typically beginning in adolescence or early adulthood. It is caused by mutations in the APC gene and, if untreated, almost invariably leads to colorectal cancer. FAP is the modern preferred term; it was historically referred to by various eponyms but is now classified under hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes.
