๐Overview
Hairy tongue is a benign, temporary condition characterized by an abnormal coating on the dorsal surface of the tongue due to elongation and hypertrophy of the filiform papillae. It is a descriptive term rather than a disease and is sometimes called lingua villosa. The condition results in a hair-like appearance on the tongue, often with discoloration. It is not related to fungal infection despite its appearance.
