๐Overview
Islet cell cancer is a legacy term referring to pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs), which arise from the hormone-producing islet cells of the pancreas. These tumors can be functional (hormone-secreting) or nonfunctional and vary widely in behavior from slow-growing to aggressive malignancies. Modern terminology prefers 'pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor' or 'pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm.'
