📋Overview
Ovarian hyperthecosis is a rare condition characterized by the presence of luteinized theca cells within the ovarian stroma, leading to excessive androgen production. It is considered a more severe form of ovarian stromal hyperplasia and is associated with hyperandrogenism and virilization in women. The term is well established and distinct from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), although both involve androgen excess. Ovarian hyperthecosis primarily affects adult women, especially those who are postmenopausal or perimenopausal.
