Sjogren's Syndrome
๐Overview
Sjogren's Syndrome is a systemic autoimmune disorder where the immune system targets the body's own moisture-secreting glands, most commonly resulting in persistent dryness of the eyes and mouth. This condition may also affect other organ systems beyond the exocrine glands, reflecting its nature as a complex systemic disease.
Formerly referred to as Sicca syndrome or Sicca complex, this condition is now clinically recognized by its modern name. It may occur as an isolated primary disorder or in conjunction with other autoimmune diseases.
