Temporal Arteritis
๐Overview
Temporal Arteritis is a form of vasculitis characterized by inflammation of the medium and large arteries, most commonly those in the head and scalp. This condition frequently affects the branches of the external carotid artery, particularly the temporal arteries located on the sides of the head.
While often referred to by its location-based name, the modern clinical term for this condition is giant cell arteritis. The inflammatory process can cause the vessel walls to swell, which may lead to narrowed or obstructed blood flow through the affected pathways.
