Varicella Embryopathy
๐Overview
Varicella Embryopathy, also known as congenital varicella syndrome, is a condition resulting from maternal varicella-zoster virus infection during early pregnancy. This syndrome involves a range of developmental anomalies caused by in utero exposure to the virus, which can affect multiple organ systems during fetal growth.
Clinical observation indicates that the condition is most likely to occur when the maternal infection happens within the first two trimesters. While the term embryopathy is found in historical medical literature, modern clinical practice often prefers the term congenital varicella syndrome to describe these findings.
