Varicose Veins
๐Overview
This condition occurs when the small valves within the veins fail to function properly, allowing blood to pool or flow backward instead of moving toward the heart. These superficial veins may appear swollen, bulging, or dark purple or blue in color.
While these dilated vessels can occur anywhere in the body, they are most frequently observed in the lower extremities due to the increased pressure on the veins from standing and walking. This clinical presentation is often categorized as a form of chronic venous insufficiency.
