Medication Quick Facts
📋Overview
Coumadin is a medication known as a blood thinner that helps prevent blood clots from forming or growing larger. It works by interfering with the way the body uses vitamin K to produce clotting factors, which are proteins needed for blood to thicken.
By slowing the clotting process, this medication helps maintain blood flow through the circulatory system. Although it is commonly called a blood thinner, it does not actually change the thickness of the blood or dissolve clots that have already formed.
