Medication Quick Facts
📋Overview
Rituximab is a type of protein called a monoclonal antibody that is designed to recognize and bind to a specific target in the body. It works by attaching to the CD20 protein found on the surface of B-lymphocytes, which are a type of white blood cell.
Once attached, the medication helps the immune system identify and destroy these cells or prevents them from causing damage. This process is used to manage conditions where B-cells are growing uncontrollably or contributing to inflammation and tissue damage.
