Dr. Heard is very good at his job. He did a large complicated surgery on my knee. I had great results, my knee is very tight again. His bedside manner is great and his positive attitude is very infectious. The Banff hospital was clean and the staff friendly and good at their jobs as well. I didn’t mind the long wait time because I knew it would be worth it. I am very grateful Dr. Heard found the time to do my knee surgery. I could not be happier with the results.

As nice as Dr. Heard is and as good at what he does he is a waste of time I was promised surgery in december and after calling and calling again and again FINALLY got ahold of them IN JANUARY and they told me I was scheduled for June… 6 months after what he told me. They do not take others pain into account I have no dislocated my shoulder in 3 months and he expects me to wait till June to get it fixed when I was waiting since last july to get it done in december! Such a waste of time I could have been half received by now if he didn’t give me false hope. I currently now am waiting for surgery in the states because he could not keep his word

I honestly would have to say that this was by far the best beside manner I have ever experienced in my life at the hospital upon every visit, Dr Mark Heard was highly recommend by my sports medicine doctor as well as several friends who have had the wonderful opportunity to experience him as a surgeon. I jumped at the opportunity to choose my own surgeon when I found out no surgeon in bc would or could touch my knee or do the surgery my knee required. My sports medicine doctor referred me after I searched fast and wide for the best surgeon in Canada and I could not be happier with everything overall. I highly recommend this surgeon to everyone and anyone.

I had a consultation with Dr. Heard regarding a torn meniscus in my knee. He was very thorough in his examination and I don’t think he knew what my MRI report said beforehand, so he had an open mind during the examination and then confirmed it by looking at the scan images (and explaining to me as we flipped through them, which was quite interesting). He answered all my questions and I felt quite comfortable with him as a surgeon. I am now just waiting to hear when my surgery date will be.

The one thing that took me by surprise – apparently most arthroscopies and smaller scale surgeries are actually done in Golden, BC! We weren’t aware of that before the appointment – I thought everything was done in Banff. So keep that in mind depending what type of surgery you are in for!

    Timing:
I waited about 3.5 months from my referral until I had my consultation, and then was told 4-6 months wait for the surgery.

Stay away. Gave me deadly infection with dirty tools for ACL/MCL/PCL repair. Filthy hospital. Washrooms reek of urine. Ignorant staff. Transient useless nurses who coughed into open wound. 13 surgeries to save my life in 2013 in Red Deer. Will now lose my leg. Infection even dissolved screws, cartilage, grafts-everything. Was told by Chief of disease control that the only way this infection was contracted was by unsterile equipment. Ruined my life. Save yours and steer clear of this wreck less Dr and staff. Would not even manage terrible pain afterward. Had to discharge early to manage it myself. Impossible to contact. Was dying in hospital when repeated calls were finally returned. Gaye no longer works there. Had to threaten legal action to get a form emailed. This operation needs to be shut down before more lives are ruined and deaths occur over simple procedures. I’m a young (was) healthy man. God only knows how many others have been affected and traumatized by the reckless incompetence of this Surgeon and his staff. Other Surgeons won’t testify against their own, but what I say is the truth. I’m lucky to be alive, but others may not be. I’ve spoken with others of whom have had comparable outcomes with Dr.Heard. I’d like to hear from others who feel that they are alone and ruined people.

You couldn't possibly be referred to a friendlier, more knowledgeable Orthopedic Surgeon than Dr. Mark Heard. He makes having a "knee injury" completely bearable.

11 yaers ago, I had this doctor repair a compound tib/fib on me. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days after and he only seen me once the next morning. I found him to be very rude and uncaring of my needs. I had to have 2 more surgry's after. I spend 33 months with a broken leg. The day I left to fly home to he never even came in to prescribe me pain medication to go home. The nurses felt that I should have lodged a compleint.

I was amazed with Dr. Heard, I had the MRI in my hand and before he would look at it, he did a bunch of tests on my knee. He told me my ACL was gone and my muniscus was torn. Then he opened the results from the MRI, which I had since Calgary and they matched what he had said. Good Guy and knows his stuff. I wish I had known about his clinic in Canmore before seeing my family doctor about my knee; my family doctor only gave me the run-around. I'm a year into my reconstructed ACL and it is great, the only thing holding me back is my mental constraints, thinking I don't have an ACL. Thanks Dr. Heard.

I broke my humerus (it wasn't humorous though haha) 7 years ago. Dr. Heard gave me some options about the surgery and explained everything very well. He put a plate in my arm and attached it with 4 screws. It feels great today. I recommend him. If you have any questions, email me at [email protected]
