I was referred to Dr Tim Small by my Oncologist as I am presently having cancer treatment. I was aware of arthritic conditions in my left hip but the slight discomfort did not bother me until it flared up with ferocity in May 2020. I had great difficulty walking and getting dressed and felt my life was wrecked. My Oncologist prescribed strong medications but these did not give any relief. However relief did come with the introduction of Dr Tim who performed hip replacement surgery on 2 Sept. Words alone do not seem to encompass all that is Dr Tim Small. From my first consultation I knew he would look after me. He proved to be an amazing surgeon with a delightful personality. It is no wonder he has helped so many patients regain their mobility and to enjoy their lives again. There is an aura of care surrounding his Rooms and Cynthia, his Practice Manager, plays such a role not only professionally but with her warm and caring manner towards patients – a big thank you Cynthia. I am eternally grateful to you Dr Tim. My recovery pleases me so much and I fall asleep with a smile as I can now sleep on my side!

I had an ACL reconstruction with Dr Small who has done an amazing job. Communication before and post surgery was perfect and the physio that I’m currently seeing said he’s rarely seen someone recover so quickly.
I have to say I was extremely anxious prior to the surgery as this was my first time ever at the hospital and Dr Small has been extremely professional and walked my through the whole process to make sure I was comfortable with everything.
I know many people who have had issues with their ACL reconstruction and/or with the rehab but everything is going perfectly for me and that’s mainly due to Dr Small’s outstanding work and I could never thank him enough for that!

I had an ACL reconstruction under the care of Dr Small. He was amazing and his practice manager (Cynthia is the most helpful and friendly person in the world). The surgery required, cost and post operative rehabilitation required was clearly explained. The surgery was performed at St Vincent’s Private Hospital. It is now 9 months post surgery and I am running around and finally “trust” my knee. Dr Small is the best. He is not only a very good surgeon, but actually really cares about you and will go the extra mile for you. If you need an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Small is the one…

After many years of knee pain and gradually declining mobility I finally decided to take action. My GP and a family member referred me to Dr Tim Small. Tim’s friendly manner from the outset made feel at ease. He explained everything clearly, what needed to be done, the outcomes I could expect, patiently answered my questions and reassured me that the post op pain would be well managed. Cynthia, Tim’s Practice Manager, provided all the information I needed, and I left the surgery trusting in Tim’s expertise. Tim’s care was excellent. He checked up on my progress each day in hospital, again patiently answering questions. The operation and post op care and pain relief were exactly as he had explained. It is now 12 weeks after my total knee replacement, and I am very happy with the outcome. I would thoroughly recommend Tim to anyone requiring knee surgery.

My experience with Dr Tim Small began with a good GP who referred me to him following an MRI of my left knee which had a niggle for years! The quality of care I got from my GP Dr Billur Sedefoglu, Cynthia (Dr Small’s practice manager at St V’s Private Clinics) and Dr. Small was simply outstanding. Of course there was an anaesthtist Dr Coleen Kane who was delightful too.
Tim saw me, explained what needed to be done and how it would be done (I required arthroscopic surgery to smooth out a tear in the meniscus and an ultrasound aspiration of a cyst), what i could expect as an outcome and what it would all cost. I saw Tim on a Monday and had surgery on the Wednesday – that’s how quick and non fussy it all was!
A follow up visit today and an assurance that I might not ever need work on my knees ever was the best news I could ask for!
Once again, thanks to Tim and his team ! Much appreciated.

Dr. Small managed to successfully reconstruct my torn ACL within 6 days of my initial consultation with him. The manner in which the process of the initial consultation, surgery and the routine check-ups was taken care of is professional and smooth. Cynthia was helpful with booking consultations and answering any questions that I had pre and post surgery. I recovered fairly well, with minimal pain a week post surgery. I only had to use crutches for the first 3 days. I gained my normal gait and achieved a bending of 120 degrees 6 weeks post surgery, thanks to the knowledge and expertise of Dr. Small. I could not rate Dr. Small highly enough and would recommend him to family and friends.

Dr. Small is simply an outstanding surgeon. He is highly skilled in his field of orthopaedics which is evidenced by the success of his operations. He also has the ability to communicate easily and well with regard to options and likely results. I have no hesitation in saying that I knew immediately I was in a safe pair of hands. Having had a catastrophic fall in which I sustained a fractured pelvis and an impacted fracture to my hip, necessitating a complete hip replacement, Dr. Small used all of his considerable surgical skills in my operation which ensured that I was mobile and pain free very quickly. I have no trace of a limp nor of disparate sizes in the legs. A truly wonderful outcome and again, a tribute to Dr. Small's skills. I thank him most sincerely for his care. A job truly well done. Thank you also to Cynthia and Emma who were at all times helpful, considerate and caring. They are a wonderful team who pull well together.

Dr Small is an absolutely fantastic doctor who impressed me with his thoroughness and attention to detail. When the operation was done, I felt confident that I knew all the options that were available and that I was going with the best one and would be looked after. While an osteotomy can seem like a daunting operation to have, Dr Small and his team looked after me very well and the recovery process was very smooth and easy. Cynthia and Emma at the front desk are also very lovely to deal with as well, and are always very helpful.

My mother had a hip replacement last December (apologies Tim for the tardy review) after a long wait and essentially a collapsed hip at final stage. Post op she was pain free immediately, walking well and straight after completing physio diligently, and back to bowling within 3 months. Now nearly 85 years young she couldn’t be happier. Tim did an amazing job and the whole experience from the first meet to the follow ups was easy and stress-free. Cynthia is lovely, always available and kept us well-informed on anything we needed to know. Thank you team Small for your help and expertise in completing the op so successfully. It’s been a life changer for mum and the family.

I am72 and recently had a total hip replacement undertaken by Dr Tim Small. I have Ehlers Danlos hypermobility syndrome which makes such a procedure highly complex and places the new hip at higher risk of dislocation. I had sought out a surgeon who understood the challenges I would be facing. After considerable research, I saw Dr Small. He was the second surgeon I had seen, the other at another hospital who did not inspire great confidence in me. I had also had a knee arthroscopy several years ago. The surgery side effects left me severely incapacitated for a year to the point where I had to leave my job. Dr Small was outstanding. He is highly skilled, knowledgeable, caring and very easy to discuss concerns with. Because of my previous surgery experience and my medical condition I had put off surgery for too long and had been hardly able to walk by the time I saw Dr Small. He also discovered I had considerable variation in leg length, another contributing factor to my hip problem. Dr Small had me walking the day after surgery and I have hardly had any pain at all with my hip. I told him I wish I had met him years ago. I would have avoided considerable hip ( and knee) pain, reduced lifestyle and falls. I cannot rate Dr Small highly enough and I will be forever grateful to him for his expertise and care. His staff are also wonderful, including Cynthia who manages the office and is a delight to deal with. If I’m brave enough to have a knee replacement, I wouldn’t go to anyone else.
