Cold Agglutinin Disease
📋Overview
Cold Agglutinin Disease (CAD) is a rare form of autoimmune hemolytic anemia characterized by the presence of cold agglutinins—autoantibodies that bind to red blood cells at low temperatures, causing their clumping and destruction. It is considered a subtype of autoimmune hemolytic anemia and is distinct from cold agglutinin syndrome, which is secondary to infections or malignancies. CAD is the preferred modern term for this chronic condition.
