Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an acute autoimmune disorder characterized by rapid onset of muscle weakness and paralysis due to peripheral nerve inflammation and demyelination. It is a well-recognized neurological emergency requiring prompt diagnosis and management. GBS is the preferred modern term; older or related terms include acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (AIDP), which is the most common subtype.
