๐Overview
Hiccups, clinically referred to as singultus, involve repeated and involuntary spasms of the diaphragm muscle. These contractions cause a sudden intake of breath that is abruptly stopped by the closing of the glottis, resulting in the characteristic audible sound.
While most instances are brief and resolve without intervention, these episodes can occasionally persist for longer durations. This physiological response is generally considered a benign condition, though it may be associated with various underlying triggers or neurological pathways.
