Iron Deficiency Anemia
๐Overview
This condition occurs when the body lacks enough iron to produce adequate amounts of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that enables oxygen transport to tissues. It is widely considered the most frequent nutritional deficiency anemia, resulting from depleted iron stores and a subsequent decrease in red blood cell production.
When iron levels are insufficient, the bone marrow cannot synthesize the hemoglobin required for healthy blood function. This deficiency leads to a clinical state where the blood's oxygen-carrying capacity is reduced, potentially affecting various physiological systems.
