Kawasaki disease is an acute systemic vasculitis primarily affecting medium-sized arteries, especially the coronary arteries. It is a well-recognized pediatric inflammatory condition first described by Dr. Tomisaku Kawasaki. The modern preferred term remains Kawasaki disease. It predominantly affects children and can lead to serious cardiovascular complications if untreated.
