Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome
LEMS
📋Overview
Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome (LEMS) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by impaired communication between nerves and muscles, leading to muscle weakness. It is caused by antibodies targeting voltage-gated calcium channels at the neuromuscular junction, reducing acetylcholine release. LEMS is often associated with underlying malignancies, especially small cell lung cancer, but can also occur as a primary autoimmune condition.
