Not only does he not have a bedside manner, especially with children, he doesn’t care. I took my child in to emergency with a high fever, he sent him home, advising that “nothing was wrong with him”. The same evening, I took my son to another hospital and we spent the night. He had a very bad ear and throat infection. The on-call doctor was appalled that he was sent home the same morning.

last year i went to see an eye specialist about getting eye surgery. when i left the office i had an irritation in my eye. it progressed into severe eye swelling and pussing. allergy tests showed no signs of allergies, yet when i went to the hospital to get my eye checked while it was still very puffy and swollen, as did my husband have a bit of a red bloodshot eye, dr. birkell unfortunately was the doctor to help us, and he took one look at us, asked if we had allergies, which neither of us do, so we told him no, yet he did not listen, he told us that it was due to alllergies, and perscribed us both with allergy eye drops and claratin. needless to say i was not impressed with him, and he was only with us for about 5 minutes max. i very much dislike the way dr. birkell does things.

I found him to be rude and arrogant. He prescribed my baby medication for strep throat without swabbing his throat and without explaining the medication to me (the pharmacist told me what it was). I would not recommend him to a new mother.
