After a terrible appointment with Dr. Coetzee, who told me that abortion is murder and tried to convince me to opt for adoption instead, I made an appointment with Dr. Birkill. When I told Dr. Birkill about my experience he laughed. He told me there was no such thing as the abortion pill. When I challenged him, he said there might be, but that he wouldn't feel comfortable prescribing it to me. He sent me for an ultrasound anyway, which I went for, and he never followed up. Rude, unprofessional, and dangerous. I am an adult, educated professional -- I knew what he was saying was not true, but I can't imagine sitting there as a young, scared woman who has absolutely no information.

This man who calls himself a doctor, honestly does not care about his patients, he almost killed a family member. His pride gets in the way and does not listen to the patient or the family leading to an almost fatality. He is very lucky nothing happened.

I would not go see any other doctor! I have actually gotten over my illness with his help rather than being told live with it or here is a basket of meds try these. I think some of the’arrogant’ comments come from people who are going into the hospital just hoping for medication and are upset when they are told there are other ways to deal with their medical condition.

INJURED BABY — Had a “birthing emergency” during childbirth and almost lost my baby. He was delivery doctor. Shoulders got stuck behind the pelvis during delivery. (shoulder dystocia) After a very painful and stressful experience, he told me that baby’s clavicle bone had been broken. After being sent to another hospital and baby examined, turns out it was much worse. My baby had a brachail plexus injury (Erb’s Palsy) which means his right arm was paralyzed from the stetching and tearing of the nerves. (as well as ripped completely from the spinal cord) My baby has since had nerve graft surgery to try and repair the damage, although not much has improved. My baby is left with a PERMANENT DISABILITY. I have since done a lot of research on this injury and have discovered that almost ALL cases of this situation CAN be prevented. I don’t feel he had the knowlege to handle this situation properly. Hope others find this helpful in deciding his care.
