I underwent TKA back on 22nd June, 2021. My Post-op consultation with my Specialist (Tim) took place on 2nd August, 2021. Tim was absolutely shocked at the progress I had made. I was again walking freely, flexibility was great and have only slight discomfort, no pain. This operation was the best thing I could have done. I have turned a corner and now there is no looking back. My decision to go ahead with this surgery was defined by putting up with severe pain due to osteoarthritis suffered in my right knee for over 5 years so as you can imagine, I still have a lot of work to do to build up my muscles that have been compromised for so long. Days 1 - 4 On the Ward was concentrated on pain relief but at the same time, Physiotherapists came by twice a day to get me up walking, first with a frame (that didn't last) and then straight onto one crutch. I really didn't need it because I felt more stable than I had for such a long time. We progressed onto squats and learning how to climb stairs. These of course were challenging at the time but doable. Days 5 -10 I moved into the In-patient Rehabilitation Ward where flexibility was challenged. I could now walk without a crutch or a walking stick but ordered to use the stick 'just in case'. Hydotherapy was wonderful for building up confidence with my new knee. Lots of fun and laughs as well. Highly recommended. Once home, I continued with the exercises provided to me by the Physiotherapy Team. I decided not to persue further Rehabilitation as an Outpatient mainly due to Covid restrictions. I instead opted to see an Osteopath and visited them twice a week at first then once a week. I really do not think that my recovery would be as swift without it. After my first visit my knee felt free, the swelling was relieved and after the third visit could manage stairs and walk them normally (holding onto rail). I highly recommend this service to speed up flexion and reduce swelling. This biggest thankyou however goes to Dr Tim Small who promised me I would get my life back. He was right. I can finally see the light. Tim is not only an amazing Doctor, he is down to earth and honest. If you are in the running for a new knee, look him up!!!! He has a reputation for great results.

I had a hip replacement 6 weeks ago, and all has gone very well. Minimal pain – so able to stop all pain killers, except occasional paracetamol, within 4-5 days. No pain tablets after 1 week. Wounds healing perfectly and so good to be able to walk normally again. All interactions F2F and by phone were easy and helpful. St Vincents Private staff great and rehab at Wolper excellent.

Dr Tim Small and his lovely office manager Cynthia are professional, personable, approachable and kind. I can’t rate my whole experience any higher than amazing! I highly recommend Tim as a surgeon. I had a full left hip replacement due to Osteoarthritis and bone spurs and was on the young end for this procedure but with a family wanted to have the best quality of life. He explained the whole procedure and answered all my questions confidently. The Surgery and recovery went perfectly and the follow up was great. I’m 6 weeks post op and back at work the deep joint pain that haunted 10 or more years of my life has gone and I’m recovering well. I will be using Dr Small for the right hip when the time comes. The team at St Vincents Private are incredible. Thank you Dr Tim and Cynthia truely felt like I was in the best hands which alleviated all my anxieties, Thankyou so much.

I was recommended to Dr Tim Small by one of his patients. Dr Tim performed an arthroscopic procedure on my left knee last year followed by a total knee replacement to my right knee 3 months ago. Dr Tim is an amazing surgeon, very skillful and caring. From my first consultation I was impressed by Dr Tim as he made me feel at ease and valued. He listened to my concerns, explained everything, answered honestly and didn’t rush me. He is professional with a great sense of humour.! I was very nervous but I felt reassured by Dr Tim and I knew I was in good hands. I am so grateful to Dr Tim Small and have no hesitation in recommending him. Cynthia is the Practice Manager, super friendly, and efficient.

From the moment I met Dr Tim Small I knew I was in good hands.
Tim was empathetic, explained my condition and my options in a way I could understand (using models and my MRI) and was really patient. He didn’t push surgery which I appreciated and he genuinely cared about me getting back on my feet in time to meet some personal goals.
I had a tear in my meniscus and started by asking him about all the non-surgical options! I was pretty nervous, I hadn’t had surgery before. I left my first appointment wanting to think about my options. I had a heap of questions and emailed them to him a couple of days later. Tim rang me and took the time I needed to understand the answers to all my questions, and this convinced me that surgery was the right option for me.
I saw him again on the day of surgery and a week later for follow up. Tim told me I would walk out of the hospital on the day of surgery and I absolutely could. My recovery has been quick and exactly as Tim said. I am so happy I nipped this in the bud early. If I ever have to see an orthopaedic surgeon again, I’ll be coming back to Tim. And if any of my family or friends need an orthopaedic surgeon, I know who I will be recommending.
Also, special mention to Tim’s practice manager Cynthia. She is so helpful, a quick responder and explains the whole hospital process for you and is there for you when you need her.
They’re a very capable and friendly team! Thanks Tim and Cynthia.

Dr Tim Small is an awesome doctor. In my first visit I advised him that I was not visiting for a second apinion. After he heard my problem, he was willing to assist. I booked in for both of my hips and had both replaced accordingly. He is enthusiastic about the work that he does and does it well. He is one amazing doctor. I’m glad to recommend him to anyone who is seeking the services of an enthusiastic and talented doctor anytime.
