๐Overview
Ringworm, also known as dermatophytosis or tinea, is a contagious infection caused by fungi called dermatophytes that thrive on keratinized tissues such as the skin, hair, and nails. Despite its name, the condition is not caused by a worm but is named for the circular pattern often observed on the skin.
Clinical classification of this infection often depends on the specific body part affected, such as the feet, scalp, or hands. These infections may spread through direct contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated surfaces and objects.
