I am surprised at the number of negative comments here but suppose that people who have had bad experiences are more likely to post feedback than those who have not.
I am of the latter sort. I was diagnosed with a bad retinal detachment in BC, was referred to Dr Anand at Rockyview, flew to Calgary the next day and was operated on the day after. He inserted a strong gas bubble which took 2 1/2 months to dissipate but now I see pretty well again out of that eye, so I am extremely grateful for the saving of sight in that eye. I think Dr Anand is an excellent surgeon and the hospital and its staff were first class. Dr Anand appears to be highly regarded in the profession and patients are referred to him from as far away as Grand Prairie, as well as BC.
His manner can quite brusque I suppose but I don’t see any reason for people to be offended by that.

Dr. Jag Anand is the worst Doctor out there, I went to his office waited beyond reasonable time after my appointment time, when he finally saw me he was using his cell phone listening to some religious mantars which I find highly unprofessional and on top of that he was using facebook and did not even tell me what is wrong with my left eye, just asked if anybody else in my family has ever had glaucoma, which makes me sort of think I have glaucoma, though the medication he prescribes has not helped but in fact has made my condition worst where as before the pain and vision problem would be once or twice a day for a few minutes only and now is constant. WORST DOCTOR EVER!

I’m actually surprised to read a lot of these reviews. I was sent in to see Dr. Anand in his Sunridge office when I had been diagnosed as a gestational diabetic. I was in to see him during my pregnancy, following my pregnancy, and now, a year later just as a follow up. His staff aren’t necessarily the friendliest, and there’s a bit of a wait past appointment time to see him, but I don’t find that any different than 80% of the specialists in Calgary. He has always been very kind and respectful to me, willing to answer all of my questions, and provide me with any information that I require. He’s also never left the impression with me that he is disrespectful because of gender. Lastly, he also took the time to ask me about my baby, and had a conversation with me afterwards about the baby. I feel like I’ve seen a very different doctor than the previous reviewers….

    D. Anand is a doctor with good reputation, however I was referred to him by my optometrist 5 years ago. he is very pessimistic and gives you the bad news first and would make you wounder why the F are you going there, I will look for another doctor asap as he is very slow when it come to treatment. being a resident of Alberta I think I will be stuck with him foe a while.

Terrible, terrible doctor. The worst bedside manner I have ever seen. He is very dismissive and extremely rude. Every opthamologist in Alberta is busy (you can't fault any of them for that), but Dr Anand acts like he is too busy and too important to address your concerns. He has actually shooed me out of his exam room even though I was in tears with worry over losing my vision. I have never had a worse experience with a medical professional than I have with Dr. Anand. I strongly encourage you to try someone else.

The other reviews on here are correct. Receptionist was great but working with a screwed up system. I have the beginning of Diabetic Retinopathy despite controlled blood sugars. I was insulated by the doctor, and his exam comprised of about 3 minutes on a machine (with him texting on his phone while I was on it). He asked only one question, and did not allow me any questions of my own. He was in such a hurry I wondered significantly about what kind of treatment I would get. He made me an appointment for 4 months later at the Rockyview. I have since gone to the Mitchell Eye Center and had my exam (two hours of testing and discussion) with treatment the NEXT DAY! Do yourself a favor. Your eyes are too important. get a second opinion. He may be a great surgeon, but I will never find out, and I wasn't going to take a chance on someone with such contempt for his "clients". P.S. Not a whiner, I have a thick skin. Just doing this to help others!

Find a different doctor! Dr. Anand operated on my eye 5 years ago and while I’m grateful for his work he treats patients like livestock. I waited 4+ hours to have him glance at my eye and threaten that if I ever miss an appointment I will have to find another doctor. I’ve never missed an appointment so I assume he has me mixed up. There was on time to mention anything because he was out the door too fast. He has always been very dismissive and seems to see patients as in the way. To say he has poor bedside manner is an overstatement. This man is in the wrong career. One could assume he would do well treating cattle. He already has the process down.

I had read reviews about Dr. Anand and his staff on Rate MDs and was concerned. I have significant cellular retinal myopathy. Dr. Anand's staff were efficient and pleasant. The clinic was very busy and Dr. Anand works hard. There was a good flow with patients and while he couldn't spend a long time with me he was focussed, caring, thorough and decisive. I left with an appt. for surgery at a local hospital booked in 2 weeks time and I genuinely liked the man. I will update this rating after surgery.
