My doctor sent me to Dr. Laval because he thought my strong stomach pains might be a result of an IUD infection. I told her thisproblem and she responded with "Stomach pain? I'm a gynecologist not a stomach doctor." She began eating her lunch and I asked if she could remove my IUD anyway and began listed my various negative hormone-related side effects that have started since IUD insertion. She dismissed each symptom saying it was not the IUD and told me she would prescribe me MORE hormones to control my period pain and MORE drugs to fix my acne. I really didn't want this but she would not take no for an answer. I explained that the IUD strings were too short and I was very anxious about not being able to feel them, she responded that this was normal and NOBODY can feel the strings ever, despite the instruction label saying that you should check the strings each month. It wasn't until I broke down crying that she took me seriously and agreed to remove the IUD. Right before it was removed, she rudely told me that I should start taking prenatal vitamins because i was definitely going to get pregnant using condoms.

I saw Dr Laval because of urinary incontinence and hormonal problems. She was very matter of fact, and reassuring and really listened to me. She seems to go out of her way to be accessible for her patients, and make it easier for patients to see her. There was no problem getting hormone patch refills, and she explained the difference between the pills and patch and I really liked her. It was a joy to see a doctor who liked her patients. Thanks, Dr. Laval. You have changed my life.

Dr. Laval saw me through my hysterectomy and the stress of having cervical cancer. She is friendly and available and a genuine person. No “aires” about her. She provided me with copies of all tes results, and answered all questions. Her bedside manner is FABULOUS!! She is warm and caring and always has time to spend with her patients. I have never felt rushed or uncomfortable in her office.

I am the husband of someone who visited Dr. Laval. I read the comment about spotting and my wife is going through the same issue. First words from the Dr’s mouth were “Well you know that 1/4 of all pregnancies end in miscarriage.” There’s nothing wrong with being direct, but empathy is the way to go. None of the information she provided was helpful and everything she related to went back to her saying the chances are that we’re having a miscarriage. She wasn’t able to provide any information that we could digest and understand. In fact, it was as if I wasn’t involved in the appointment. She didn’t even acknowledge that I was there. This is our first pregnancy and I have no clue what to expect. Now I have even less of a clue! I could accept if we’re having a miscarriage. But now I don’t know whether or not it is a miscarriage or if we can keep on trying. I’m very disappointed in the visit and I’m looking forward to getting back to our family Dr to see what’s really going on.

I was seen by Dr. Laval for my first pregnancy, having just moved from Southern Ontario at 32 weeks with the knowledge from my previous OBGYN that my baby was breach, I asked Dr. Laval for an ultrasound to make sure of the babies position. Said she was sure the baby was indeed head down. Started having hypertension at 35 weeks, she was not sure if I should go to the hospital. She changed her mind twice during my check up,never went. Became extremely hypertensive at 37 weeks and rushed me to the hospital to be induced. Sure enough I delievered my baby breach that night. She had injuries to her genitalia (cut from her anus to her vagina). I even took pictures just in case… I told Dr. Laval I was breach and she didn’t listen to me. Six weeks later I had a post pregnancy examination and she did not complete any type of examination,I sat on the chair and she asked me some questions regarding post-partum depression and then sent me on my way!I would never recommend this Dr. to anyone.
