Booked about 6 people for 10am appointment so had to wait my turn (5th) after waiting weeks to get in. Spent about 10mins with Narula who didn’t really look at xrays or ct scans. He didn’t seem concerned about my disc bulges and prolapses. Made me feel like I was wasting his time and told I should just exercise and lose weight. I was so looking forward to having someone help ease my back and leg pain but I left really disappointed. The receptionist is just as bad – she covered up when asked about the appointment system and I heard another patient ask about how much rebate she would get from medicare and she said she didn’t know. It was a very heartless experience.

After waiting 2 months to see Dr Narula I finally saw him with chronic upper body pain. He was late, rude and showed no care or compassion. I came with a report from a CT Scan but he wasn’t interested. He told me that I was experiencing “normal wear and tear”. I insisted on an MRI of my neck and he finally relented, but said he “didn’t think it would show any more than the CT Scan”. I had the MRI immediately and then had to wait another month to see him again. He had reported back to my doctor that the pain was because I was “overweight” which he focused more on than the issue. The MRI showed 2x buldging discs in my neck which were causing the pain (possibly due to car accidents). He did not provide me with any details about what they were or meant nor what i could do about it (nor did he tell me one had a tear which I later was informed about from my GP). He finally gave me the details of a pain management specialist to contact and sent me on my way. Would not recommend!

Was on waiting list for L4L5 spinal stenosis at main public hospital which was going to do a laminectomy and fusion. Was waiting in agony for over a year and was going to be longer. Luckily I had joined a private health fund and when my qualifying year was up went to see Dr Narula. He said I did not need a fusion. He only had to go in behind the laminates and cut away the blockage (my words) I was in and had the op in 3 weeks and I am so grateful to Dr Narula for saving me from undergoing a fusion. Dont know what others mean about him being arrogant. He is a great guy and must be very talented to do that sort of work.Tha k yiu Dr Narula. I am just so glad you live in Perth and have helped me.

I have found Mr Narula an extremely pleasant and knowledgeable doctor and explained my condition and surgical procedure fully . I spent 5 days in hospital and he visited me every day, no matter how busy he was. Great surgeon, my back pain has improved 80% and no doubt will improve even more once fully recovered and sciatica has gone.I would recommend him to anyone who needs a good neurosurgeon. My experience with this doctor has been completely opposite to all the negative comments made about him.

I paid $700 for a lot of misinformation, long story short I ended up in Emergency surgery at SCGH with the Dr’s there telling me I had left it too late and may have permanent damage (advice from Dr Narula). I would ask for an alternative if your GP refers to him!

Very rude and arrogant man, was with him for about 5 minutes, didn’t explain anything about my condition, didn’t want to hear anything from me about my condition. Within the first couple of minutes he stated, surgery won’t help me, you should go and see a pain specialist! No explanation, wasn’t interested in talking to me at all. Wouldn’t return or recommend!

If I could give zeros I would. This doctor and his staff are so rude and arrogant it’s ridiculous. I will never go back to see him and warn everyone else not to go near him. He’s only worried about how much money he he can make from you and his reputation.

Nope! Don't bother with him. Only after your money. Charges exorbitant AMA rates cos he thinks he's the ducks nuts of the neurosurgical world in Perth. Quite frankly there are far better, less arrogant neurosurgeons in Perth.

I have attended Dr Narula's office on multiple occasions preceding my surgery. He is a man of few words yes...but there is no point going into depth as it is jargon to me and I would have been more overwhelmed than I already was. But, he did take the time to show me my scans and discuss what the issues were and how to proceed. He listened to my concerns and expectations and gave me the relevant options. Surgery went very well and his expertise ensured the scar is hardly noticeable even considering the surgery was only around 2 months ago and I am feeling fantastic. People need to remember, infections and such usually come from when recovering in the hospital or at home and not necessarily surgery itself. I am happy I listened to one of his previous clients who said his skills as a surgeon are fantastic and I only have praise for this man. Sometimes he can run behind in time and other times he is spot on, but I guess there are things that happen behind the scenes that affect this. The reception staff can be hit or miss, absolutely wonderful and helpful at times and other times hard to reach and not so wonderful, but to be honest I only care about the skill required to ensure my quality of life. I would definitely return and undergo surgery with Dr Narula as my treating doctor.

Unsatisfactory. Do not have any faith in a doctor who is so 'confidential' that his reports to GPs are labelled "Not to be released". Consultations with Dr Narula were so brief I didn't receive any explanations from him as to test results nor from my GP - obviously too confidential to release to meI I would have thought it a patient's right to the information - my body and I paid the bill! Even a second MRI scan request given to me by my GP as per Dr Narula's instruction in the not-to-be-released report has no clinical information on it whatsoever. It's obviously so-o-o-o confidential! Would never go back to him again.
